Deadheads showed their fierce loyalty in two completely different ways when
it came to the Furthur Festival. Although our intrepid Virtual Deadhead
lived within a five-hour drive of 2.63 Furthur Festivals, (s)he only attended
0.83 of them. Indeed, forty of the 101 respondents to this section did not
attend a single show, and only four of those had the excuse of living more
than five hours away from the bus stops. Many of the holdouts missed the
tour because it wasn't the Grateful Dead they loved so dearly; others cited
reasons that might well have been overcome for a real Dead tour. On the
other hand, Deadheads who got on the bus certainly got their money's worth:
even though they were reminded how much they missed the Dead, they still
managed to have a great time and were generally eager to go again next year.
They had very few negative things to say about the tour, suggesting that
the holdouts might do well to reconsider any Absolute Dead positions the
next time the Furthur Bus makes a stop in their neighborhood.
