Updated 8/25/97
DeadBase X is due out in late October; we do not expect it to be our
last edition. DeadBase X will not have Garcia lists, but will include
returns of the popular Tape Timings chapter with many new listings, the
Deadhead Survey, Basic Statistics, and Discography. It will also feature
an expansion of the Reviews chapter and DeadBase '95.
We don't know what tomorrow will bring, but ideas being considered include:
- The Dead's solo efforts (including GarciaBase and WeirBase) may yet
appear in our often-deferred LiveBase, along with the likes of Quicksilver,
Big Brother, Dinosaurs, and Zero. We welcome ideas and information.
- The DeadBase Feedback Anthology. When the current surveys are completed
we will have conducted 9 Feedbacks, 5 Deadhead Surveys, and 7 Annual Feedbacks
(21 questionnaires, totaling 56 pages). It might be interesting to look
at some of this data in greater detail and perspective, while tracking
some answers over several years.
- We may publish a compilation of reviews from our various annual editions
along with those from the main volume, covering 900-1,000 Dead shows.
- Another candidate for consolidation would be the tape timings sections
from our various volumes, covering over 700 shows.
- It has been suggested that we publish annual editions for earlier years.
If we can find enough material to do them justice (a tall order for the
seventies and the early eighties) and if there is enough interest we might
tackle some yet-to-be-determined years.
Then again, we may just stop after DeadBase X. Personally, I have been
having a hard time fathoming and accepting the losses of Jerry Garcia and
of the Grateful Dead. I expect that it will be a while before things clear
enough for us to get an idea of where we are going. If you have opinions
on if, or what, when, and how often we should publish, please let us know.
Happy Trails - John Scott
